Say no, goodbye, and adios to bare toes, cold feet, and dull, lifeless, totally humdrum socks. Thanks to Socksmith Designs, fun, fashionable, and fantastic footwear is here to stay – for good.

“No boring socks” is their motto – and let’s just say that couldn’t be more true. Think taco and donut-infused socks, or more novel items like “pugs” (a company best-seller) and women’s empowerment specials such as artsy Frida Kahlo and mighty fine Rosie the Riveter socks. Anything utterly imaginable, the sock gurus over at this once-tiny homegrown grassroots venture now turned successful Santa Cruz enterprise can make it happen. Because as husband and wife founders Eric and Ellen Gil say, their ideas are “infinite.” “We will never run out.”

Having both been in the business of socks for almost thirty years, the Gils set out to create a one-stop shop for a collection of men’s and women’s novelty socks and knee-highs that would not only make people smile, but also provide a unique West Coast point of view. After years of chatting with sock lovers wishing certain designs were out on the market, the couple, along with partner Cassandra Aaron, decided to make good use of Santa Cruz’s free flowing nature of artistic creativity and laid-back surf lifestyle with what is now a burgeoning brand of over 400 colorful footie favorites that are anything but average or basic.

It’s not just the colorful, bold graphics and fun, creative designs that have people talking. No, it’s the guarantee of comfort tops and easy-wear with no pesky binding, as well as an ongoing mission to constantly add out-of-the-box ideas to the mix. Anybody and everybody’s bound to find that perfect pair within the plethora of cotton, wool, argyle, and eco-friendly bamboo knee highs, crew lengths, and peds that are as magical and marvelous as the unicorns, leprechauns, and elves featured on the fresh and meaningful novelty designs themselves. Foodies will adore the sushi or mac n’ cheese socks. Animal lovers will delight in everything from otter and flamingo-filled options to “Haute Dog,” “Penguin-ka Dot,” or even extra-large Bigfoot items.

What’s more is that the roster of celebs who continue to don Socksmith’s collections is incredibly lengthy as well. From Disney star Zendaya and Chicago Bears wide receiver Cameron Meredith to Whoopi Goldberg, Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda, Monica the Medium, and even former President George HW Bush, the fetish for Socksmith’s free spirited, functional—not to mention fabulously fun socks—is endless. It’s also very easily become a trend, that we here at Gas Mask Magazine, know and love. Oh, did we mention that we even did a promotional shoot last summer featuring numerous actors and personalities that you can take a peek at? Keep scrolling.

Currently, the Gils’ iconic statement wearing socks are available in hundreds of stores nationwide, and with more than 2,000 customers in nearly every state, there’s never been a better time to get your hands on a pair (or maybe a whole dozen!) of these footies than now.
