Violet LaVelle: “Summer Love”

Damn, just damn. Violet LaVelle captured my hear, and my heart, right out of the gate. “Summer Love” combines some great genre influences. Her jazzy vocal style is firm and versatile, exploring the edges of her range with ease. Reminding me almost of Japanese Urban Pop from the late 80’s, the beat is very intoxicating.

The inclusion of keyboard and what sounds like saxophone is a great touch, lending the song a quality of polish and class that many artists will overlook, or see merely as a gimmick. I could barely sit still as I wrote this review. As the summer approaches and we search out in this wide wide world of ours for human connection and closeness, it can be hard to not fall for every easy smile, slight connection, we run into. Let Violet LaVelle remind you to keep a healthy level of doubt in your heart and know your worth with this infinitely repeatable track. Stream it below, and tell us what you think of it on social media at: @gasmaskmagazine.
