Tom Boy: “Long Way Home”

There is an epic quality to both the musical and lyrical aspects of this song. Tom Boy delivers an almost ethereal experience with their moody, “Long Way Home.”

Vocally, the performance feels pained, yet passionate. Emphasizing the mythical language found in the lyrics, the vocalist spins the tale of a long separation, born of hubris and pride. This is shattered by the time and distance, with the forsaken party seen in a new light. The backing mix is the pop version of a dirge, full of echo and muffled, distorted samples. Long, mournful cries are the chorus, sending chills up your spine. Realizing that you’ve wandered, that you’re lost, is just part of the heroes’ journey. Tom Boy, with grim awareness, sets out to complete this journey, setting off on the “Long Way Home.” Stream it below, and tell us what you think of it on social media at: @gasmaskmagazine.
