SpenDoe: “Smiles & Cries”

The last track on SpenDoe’s new 2020 EP, “Smiles & Cries,” is the perfect music for chilling out and appreciating the little things that make life worth it.

“Smiles & Cries” is a continuation of the messages instilled by Tupac: “Whatever you see you gotta keep a sense of humour; you gotta be able to smile through all the bullshit.” In this 2020 track, the California-based rapper, SpenDoe, advocates for appreciating the laughs and the cries that come our way. He states in the chorus, “Waking up to live, see you fight another day, despite all the nightmares and twisted dreamscapes,” a line uncannily similar to that of our friend who died in 1996. But aside from the message, the spacey piano samples also reminisce of the instrumentations that Tupac would use, such as his song, “Changes.” With this track, SpenDoe has brought a much-needed, hope-bringing experience to end off the year.
