Are you ready for the definitive anthem for the forlorn and desolate? Sky Keller continues a stellar track record with this epic, heart-wrenching ballad about rock bottom and the treacherous, but essential, climb up and away.
With a beat that brought to mind someone speeding through a tunnel, the sickly amber lights overhead blinking in and out of existence as they sped by, our hearts kept pace, racing towards a final triumph over self, over doubt. The determined, beaten but not broken vocal work of Sky Kellar had us choking up. Her powerful voice would coo and sigh at moments of overwhelming emotion, the stripped down but vital backing mix letting her obvious talent soar.
This is the song that will be playing in our heads when we make the difficult but decisive steps away from the people and places that do us nothing but harm. “High and Hurt” is another tool in our arsenal of self-affirmation and introspective strength. We hope you’ll take the opportunity to add this excellent track to your auditory arsenal. Let us know what you think of this tune on social media today: @gasmakmagazine.
