The first time I heard this song was at the gym, while working on this assignment.

I had my headphones in and I was grinding away at the bench, something that requires concentration and reserves of that inner ‘oomph’ that gets you that last rep or two, the burn, the actual gain. I felt my heart racing, of course from the strain, but also from the song’s overall vibe. As a fan of metal and rock, I listen to hard and heavy tracks to get me amped up, boost those neurochemicals. Now, among the screams and growls and shouts, this electronic anthem by SJUR, Lovespeak, ‘Me in the Middle’, will proudly stand.

The music video is really what cemented this song in my mind, as the visuals match the emotions, the feeling you get while listening to this. It’s no exaggeration that the drop in this song got me to muscle through those extra reps. The beat is unrelenting, steady, evenly paced, building here and there to emphasize the lyrics, but keeping to a kind of trudge, a pump, one foot in front of the other. The lyrics are very encouraging, speaking for you, almost. It was the voice in my head’s theme song, the spark that ignites at those moments you need the fire.
