“A Thousand Ways” by Phoebe Ryan is a gorgeous exploration of love gone wrong. The track opens with Ryan’s emotive voice on the ropes, reflecting on how quickly life and love can go wrong over light guitar plucking. Before we hit the chorus, a thundering drum comes in on the down beat, adding an almost dangerous sense of drama before it comes clear that this isn’t a song about moving past a lover that jilted her—Ryan’s still in the thick of it. The simple instrumentation is used to punchy, devasting effect. The percussion comes in and out in surprising ways, keeping you on your toes, but the catchy melody makes this an instant karaoke classic. You’ll be singing along in the car before you know it!
