Canadian country singer Nicole Rayy is taking us on a trip down memory lane in her fabulous new single, “Feels Like Yesterday.”
With references to the Backstreet Boys, Brittany Spears, and a time before cell phones, ‘90s nostalgia comes rushing back as the lyrics reminisce throughout “Feels Like Yesterday.” It’s cool how right there in the middle of the chorus, as the typical country melody plays, you suddenly get a whiff of the chords from Third Eye Blind’s “Semi-Charmed Life” – which of course, was released in 1997.
The lyrics on “Feels Like Yesterday” are fun, but they also stir up emotion for those old enough to remember this pivotal era. For me, this decade was strongly influenced by music, and it truly does feel like only yesterday. However, like this line reminds – “I keep thinking it’s been ten years since the nineties, but it’s been twenty somehow.” Actually, it’s been 30 years, but who’s counting. I just enjoyed listening to this song from start to finish.
“Feels Like Yesterday” has made me an instant fan of Nicole Rayy’s vocal power and music style. I look forward to hearing her other music, including latest album, All Woman, available to stream now. For those local to Ontario, Canada, Nicole will be playing at several live venues throughout August.
