“Experience the drama here.”These words punctuate a straightforward and enticing introduction to the genre-bending artist Nhala. 

While my untrained ear caught stylistic notes of “No Doubt” and the deceptive air of pop-country, “Back to the Dark” quickly disabused me of this misperception. Standing in no shadow but that of her past, Nhala’s unique vocal quality is a league all its own. Flitting between a sultry smolder and an energetic cry her singing is powerful and a presence in and of itself. The instrumental backing here serves as the stage from which her fiery personality and striking vocalizations erupt and entrance.
