Classically trained musicians have centuries of musicality and theory to bring to bear on modern genres. Portuguese artist Midnight Ambassador proves this in his newest single, “Mirror.”
Sophisticated and at times sinister, this track’s sound is a metered exploration of the turmoil within. The artist behind the monicker, Andre Graca, has great diction in his wordplay, and uses his literate lyricism to great effect. The pace of this track is like a race to edge of the world. As the lyrics increase in intensity, the content of the words become more and more indicative of the uncontrollable expansion of doubt and fear. The poeticism of Andre Graca is unmistakable, and without this deft writing, the piece wouldn’t have half the impact it does. Operatic, dramatic, modern, and menacing, this tour of a tormented self-image is a stunning experience.
