Matthew V.: “Don’t Let Me Down”

A pop track with plenty of kick. This is what awaits you with the stripped-down, playful musical stylings of Mathew V’s “Don’t Let Me Go.”

Mathew V makes great use of his clean vocal work, the real star of the show here. The deftly produced mix backing him works to punctuate the beseeching open letter to the unseen target of this musical memo. The layered mix here is done at a good one for one ratio, not overshadowing the artist’s performance, but definitely enhancing the already profound individual style and sound.

While some pop tracks might lean towards whiny, might wallow in somber mumbling, might drop the energy and mood, “Don’t Let Me Go” is less a beg than a friendly warning. Not wanting to be played, left hanging, is something I think we’ve all had experience with. Matthew V makes it clear that while he’d like to keep things going, he also won’t accept games. And you shouldn’t either, kings and queens. Put your foot down, and maybe choreograph your determination, with this excellent pop track.  Stream it below, and tell us what you think of it on social media at: @gasmaskmagazine.
