Pop doesn’t often delve into relationships that are over, and should stay over. Lost Stars break with the genre line and offer a song that says, “no, I deserve better, we’re through.”
“All I Know” is very catchy, with memorable lyrics of self-affirmation. What surprised me the most was the personal nature of the lyrics, as opposed to the usual broad terms pop music tends to adhere to. This song is a definite response to a traumatic relationship, and the fact that it is in the guise of a fun, danceable pop track is really the standout quality that drew me in. The vocals here work more to reiterate the central message, that he’s not just over them, he’s past ‘us’ past ‘we’ and is speaking as an individual, in full awareness of just what they had been. And it wasn’t pretty. This was a definite musical treat when compared with the usual white noise of the genre, and I am glad that Lost Stars is out there creating worthwhile music.
