Oh the games we play, and the people we hurt. This is the message I got from Keir Gibson’s heartfelt song “Circles.”

There’s so much emotion packed into this song, the lyrics like they were torn from my own moments of bewilderment and hurt. I connected deeply to this song, as I’m sure anyone who put effort into a cyclical, toxic relationship. His voice, his VOICE, on the edge of a cry, sounding so vulnerable but with an inner strength and fire that breaks through the hurt. Less a mournful litany of wounds than a steadfast declaration of determined awareness, this song is just what a lot of us need.

The lyrics feel fatalistic, but it’s really a final understanding. “Here we are, going ‘round in circles.” And while a moment is spared to look back on the broken promises, on the jabs, the pointless hurt, a page is turned. The Circle is broken. Stream it below, and tell us what you think of it on social media at: @gasmaskmagazine.
