Bordeaux-London trio J-Silk has given us an instant mood lift with their ebullient new track, “Bring Me Joy.”
After a two-year hiatus, the “future soul” group is back and better than ever. Their third EP, “Dreaming Awake” represents the next chapter for the group and to kick off this new era they’ve given us “Bring Me Joy.” Blending hip-hop, electro-pop, and a hint of 70’s soul, J-Silk’s music is effortlessly sexy. While J-Silk’s sound has always been spot-on, somehow the group has managed to elevate their production style to a whole new level of refined.
On “Bring Me Joy,” the group combines bold percussive beats with Joanna Rives’s smoldering vocals that glide across the song’s compelling melody. “I just asked and you came right through me/Didn’t expect it that quick but now you’re here,” Rives describes encountering a love she never could have seen coming. Bubbling synths and finger snaps ebb and flow throughout this track, giving it an old-school 90’s R&B feel. Lots of modern artists have turned to this particular decade for inspiration, but J-Silk has definitely given this genre an updated spin. If you’re looking to instantly put a smile on your face or remind your SO just how much they mean to you, throw on “Bring Me Joy” at let the music work its magic.
