GODFREY: “Hard Look” (Mirror and Me)

Hard Look (Mirror and Me) is laid-back, but heartfelt. The hook, “Please don’t let me down” is not only catchy, but stirring in light of our current times. Although the track is clearly hip hop, GODFREY’s vocals and overall sound are reminiscent of the pop band OneRepublic. His performance is passionate and emotional, which is just the amount of care one should put into a track such as this.

GODFREY, whose real name is Godfrey Thomson, is a singer-songwriter, producer, and musician. His musical careers began at a young age, recording voice-overs as a child. Over the years, he’s found success composing music for various films and television shows. His hard and alt-rock sounds, unlike Hard Look, can be heard on shows such as Cars TV and American Athlete.

GODFREY’s first single, Sugar Puss (feat. Nitty Scott), was released earlier this year. Hard Look is the result of the hard look the artist had to face in the mirror. His decision to release the single on Juneteenth was intentional since the track was born from his reflection on Black Lives Matter.
