The hauntingly affecting piano intro sets the tone on “Quiet Spaces,” the new song from up-and-coming artist Em Ly.
The somber adult contemporary ballad is about a person left broken from a toxic relationship. Em Ly does an amazing job of using her soulful voice to express the emotional scars from being in such a situation.
By the time you reach the chorus, you are already invested in her story and can feel the vulnerability in the words being sung. The songwriting is an expression of deep thoughts, like a passage from a personal journal – “I kept my heart in quiet spaces. It took so long for me to break this. You broke my heart and now I’m wasted. Only felt safe in quiet spaces.”
