Dance and EDM aren’t really my forte, so it’s always a pleasant surprise when I’m forwarded engaging acts like DJ Oops and his latest single ‘OneAndOnly.’
There’s a sense of abandon to the track that really epitomizes the genre’s trappings. That crowded, sweaty, chaotic mash-up of sound and bodies and neurochemistry. Building here, dropping out there. The highs and lows of the song matching the build of dopamine, adrenaline, and whatever else may be crossing the dance floor.
The mix is amazingly effective here. It kept my attention, but not in the generic sense of noise of the sake of noise. There was purpose to it, buoying the lyrics so that they were not crushed in the rush of the overall vibe. The song stood out on its own merits rather than drowning the listener in the beeps, claps, crashes, and sighs of the genre’s weaker acts.
DJ Oops is an act to watch with plenty to offer both the genre devotee and skeptics like myself. I know I’ll be adding it to my gym mix, at the very least. Who knows hwere it might plop itself in your rotation.
