DJ Mike Klaw has captured a unique sound, a fitting moment, in his latest release, ‘Better’ starring the vocal stylings of artist Alia Faye.
In the wake of the global pandemic, and the accompanying isolation, the track really speaks to that need for adventure, travel, taking a leap of faith. It acknowledges the fears and uncertainty swirling around, but offers a hand and a smile saying, ‘things are gonna get better.’ I’m willing to give it a shot. Are you?
The mix is wonderful, gets you moving from the start. It has an incredibly energizing energy to it, the bracing pulse of the beat setting the tone early and keeping your attention throughout. The sound profile here is unique, playing around with composition, building off of the core beat but still feeling experimental at times. It feels fresh and vibrant throughout, alive, reactive.
Alia Faye’s vocals are solid. Uplifting, encouraging, and with just enough dusk and breathiness to it to feel intimate and direct. Like she’s responding to the thoughts swirling around, the uncertainty, the worry. She’s not pushing us to be reckless, but just to take that chance, to look up, see the sky beyond the clouds, the sunlight past the storm.
‘Things are gonna get better.’
I think so. And I’ll play this song to remind myself when I doubt it.
