Eclectic genre-blender Dakoda Rollins described his newest album as ‘Sonically Pleasing.’ The Texas native, a talent on the trumpet, a raucous rapper, a masterful mixer, adds another feather to his musical cap with “Dreaming of You.” A Sunday-night slow-jam-worthy Pop track, Rollins takes full advantage of his boy-band inspirations and professional mixing ability.
His spirited voice is at times a breathless whisper, at others a resolute, full-throated croon, textured with a soft echo and layering. The backing mix never overpowers, an undercurrent of crisp, if billowing sound. Electronic snap drums and a synth keyboard follow along to keep the gliding pace, filling in the void as Dakoda Rollins builds up the emotion in his voice and delivery.
Simplicity and style may seem to be odd bedfellows, but when a talented artist manages to make simplicity an aspect of their style without sacrificing the individuality in either, something special happens. Be sure to tune in to this dreamy slow jam and let your mind wander to that special someone today.
