I’m going to open this review with some disbelief. I can’t believe I’d never heard of this band until I was contractually obligated to review them!
Creature Fear is a throwback-Indie Rock band with the spirit and attitude to lift you up off of your feet. Their newly released single, “Barely Alive” is a bold, playful Rock track that kicks off early and rides the rails hard before flying off into oblivion. A definite crowd pleaser, I can’t remember the last time I heard a track with this kind of energy! The vocals are riotous and balance deep, masculine baritone with the feminine mezzo-soprano like entwining sonic serpents. The instrumentals are so raucous and vibrant, it took me back to the days of moshing in a garage or backyard at an illegal show. It reminded me also of the run from the cops after they inevitably raided the show, every kick of the base and clash of the cymbals my heavy, sneakered footfalls on gritty asphalt.
Bang your head, stomp your feet, clap your hands and sing along! “Barely Alive” was the electric jolt we needed and it now will be how we start our day, thrashing the sleep from our eyes and greeting the morning sun. Tell us what you think on social media at: @gasmaskmagazine.
