Iโll be honest with you and say that I am flooded with Pop submissions and find it a bit hard to find meaningful differentiation. Samey beats, samey choruses, samey โmillenial cryโ formula. Boardroom safe, boardroom boring.
Thankfully, Chantel Jeffries burst from my speakers and lit a fire in the pop kindling I thought so long depleted. I had fun listening to this track, I listened to it while I washed dishes, while I went for a hike, while I started a small fire, while I trashed my exโs house. It just has that effect on you!
The lyrics are catchy, but they have a personal touch that I think often is lost in the genre. Itโs short of platitudes, of saying this faceless person is perfect or immensely flawed. Instead itโs blunt, saying in one of my favorite musical lines of all time, โI liked the old you better.โFriend, that hits me hard, I mean see the above trashing of an exโs private property.
And donโt even get me started on her voice. With great range that alternates between sultry and playful, between teasing and matter-of-fact, whatโs not to like? โCome Back To Meโ is in the running for my favorite song of 2020, and Iโm sure it will be for you as well.
