Oftentimes, we find ourselves in a place of defeat. Of frustration and struggle. And yet, no matter how difficult it may be, we must find the strength to push on.
To learn, improve, and overcome. Carissa Johnson’s new song “Running Uphill”, featuring Cliff Notez, demonstrates this journey perfectly. With emotive lyrics that allow the listener to instantly connect, and a powerful rock sound, “Running Uphill” manages to imbue feelings of determination and empowerment, whilst recognizing the challenges that have built one into the person they are today.
Coupled with a striking music video, the stunning visuals further the strong energy of the song. Featuring Johnson as she sings and runs through a desert, the barrenness of the setting translates well to the hard times she sings about. There are also many shots of her literally running up hills, which are great visual nods to the title. Notez also features in the music video, walking through a graveyard, further driving home the point of hardships that we all may face.
With a song as moving as this, even people who do not frequent rock will have this playing on repeat. We cannot help but look forward to future releases from Johnson!
