We all have them, so it’s about time there was a song dedicated to the emotional wounds no one can see. “Mental Scars” is the title track off of pop-punk band Card Reader’s EP, out now.
“Mental Scars” is a rocking anthem for mental health awareness. The lyrics do a great job of delivering both the reality of commonly felt struggles that occupy the mind, as well as offering a vessel of positivity and inspiration to overcome the challenges from within. All these deep thoughts are set to a musical rumble of robust guitars and banging drums.
The four-man band from Long Island, that shares its name with a data reading device, has a totally unique sound all their own. Although they are self-described as being pop-punk, I was getting a garage rock vibe going on as well. Ryan Beebe of the Philadelphia-based band, Goalkeeper, makes a guest vocal appearance on “Mental Scars.”
Card Reader will be making their live debut in Milwaukee on September 23rd via a livestreaming event, so check that out. They will also be returning to their hometown for a live show at Amityville Music Hall in Long Island on November 19, 2021.
