Boo Seeka x Golding: “Don’t Waste Your Love”

‘Don’t Waste Your Love’ by Boo Seeka and Golding is a track that just immediately conjured up an image in my mind before I was able to form any kind of opinion. So I’ll go ahead and do that same format for you wonderful people at home.

I was instantly overcome with the image of a half open air, half canopied venue, bodies pressed in close together, kept dark and mysterious by strobing lights of dark blue and even darker purple. There’s no space between one person or the next, and there shouldn’t be. As the lyrics say ‘completely numb’ hands caress any exposed skin, the thrill of contact and the sudden rush of dopamine making you all at once acutely aware and completely oblivious to the finer points of what’s going on around you. It’s just the darkness, the press of the people around you, and the music.

The music.

This is a song that I have played at the gym, on the long drive home at night, sitting on my porch watching illegal fireworks off in the distance, with my eyes closed in total darkness, and it just has such an all-encompassing vibe that it fit every single one. I had to move, I couldn’t stay still whenever I listened to this. I wanted to touch someone, to be touched. It just reached in and grabbed whatever part of my lower back moves and grooves the rest of me. It sparked up feelings I thought I’d left behind on innumerable dancefloors of my early 20’s.

The lyrics were so flush with the spirit of abandon, of living in the moment, of being and feeling (what little you can still feel) that it just hits you hard, over and over.

A lot for a relatively quick song, but this track does a lot with what it has.
