Blak Emoji: “Mainstay”

Blak Emoji’s new single should be a “Mainstay” on your playlist.

The track has an old-school beat that transports the listener back to the early days of hip-hop. It’s a smooth groove with a bit of funk. The rap is intermixed with soulful vocals, adding to the diversified sound. The lyrics are relatable and thought provoking. The words are, at times, explicit but there’s a good message behind them. Blak Emoji (aka Kelsey Warren) explained:

“‘Mainstay’ is simply about being a friend for someone in the end; expressing that you’re “on-call” for a person if they’re down or in a situation. This also relates to how you feel about yourself. Do you need or want to lift yourself up; do you have the tools? Will you be there for yourself like you are for others?”

“Mainstay” is the first single off Blak Emoji’s upcoming, remastered album, Electro, fromhis new label ECR Music. In addition to this album, the New York City based artist’s older music is getting a new life as a result of his signing with ECR. The label will soon be re-issuing his complete catalog.
