Dreamy and chill and very hard to write about. Very rarely am I stumped by a song, but “Coast” by Augustine had me going back over the song again and again, trying to get a handle on just how I felt about it, and how to express it.
This song is an Aqua Velva in a hurricane glass sitting on the very edge of a pool, sweating in the sun. This song is the glint and glimmer of sunlight across the sea as it dips below the horizon. The vocals are so pristine, so easy going and colorful that they may as well be the waters off a lonely islet somewhere in the Caribbean. The dream-pop instrumentals are so integral to the vibe of the song that they carry the equal burden of the song’s musicality.
This song was a full-body massage. It will loosen you up, undo the knots of stress in your shoulders, and maybe even bring a smile to your face. It made me close my eyes and drift off with it on a loop. Though I was disappointed to not find myself transported to a pool, fruity drink with an umbrella in hand, I still felt transported nonetheless. Buy your ticket and listen to this great track.
