In her 2019 music video for βNot That Girl,β Astrina aims to flourish a brand new self.
Backed by nebulous vocals and clones that perform contemporary dance moves, she boldly sings in the chorus, βIβm not the girl you used to think you knew, no, not anymore.β Itβs a statement that reflects the process of rebuilding oneself from past relationship failures. Astrina is addressing a previous lover who couldnβt fully appreciate her. As a result of this falling-out, she has grown to become stronger than she ever was.
Unsurprisingly, the visuals fully reinforce Astrinaβs swaggering self-love. While her silky vocals weave through the hazy atmosphere, a single spotlight is either cast upon a close up of her face or her dancing trio. The former expresses her allure while the latter showcases her talent. The final product emanates with a newfound confidence and independence.
With her new album, Between the Mirror, Astrina enters the pop world with an ethereal sound that weβre sure youβll love. Listen to βNot That Girlβ below, Gas Maskers! Tell us what you think of this track on social media at: @gasmaskmagazine.
