A love song about California. The place, the idea, the state of mind. Names like The Eagles, Tupac, The Dead Kennedys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, are listed for odes to California in all her grit and glory. Swedish artist Adeena joins the long line of tributaries with her own modern pop tribute to the best coast, “Pulse.”
The song’s unique lyrics create an image of a California that is exciting, dangerous, beautiful, unattainable yet always beckoning. An unnamed vocalist delivers a wonderfully passionate performance begging California to give him a chance. The deftly produced mix cleverly incorporates the title through a great, unrelenting beat that had us donning sunglasses and racing out to the Pacific Coast Highway. We were pulled over and told to abide by the quarantine orders but we blame this infectious, catchy track!
California; can’t afford to live here, can’t bear to leave, a love/hate relationship with all the passion and heartbreak of a Hollywood romance. All this to an excellent soundtrack in “Pulse.” Tell us what you think of it on social media today: @gasmaskmagazine.
